STICK FLY

A NYC Broadway Play

Alicia Keys produced and composed music for this play, which was outstanding.  Mekhi Phifer, Dule' Hill, Tracie Thoms, Rosie Benton, Ruben Santiago-Hudson and Condola Rashad all gave phenomenal performances!  The play centered around the LeVays, an affluent, African-American family who gathered for a few days at their Martha's Vineyard mansion.  The adult sons, Flip and Kent, each brought their girlfriends to meet the family and this set the tone and changed the dynamics for what was supposed to be a relaxing weekend.  The play mixed contemporary comedy, sibling rivalry, clash of opinions, and ultimately the revelation of family secrets.

 The Mountaintop
starring Samuel L. Jackson & Angela Bassett

Samuel L. Jackson portrays Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. in a thrilling portrait that makes a man of the legend -- exhausted, lonely and wracked by fears for the civil rights movement which will be his historic legacy.

Angela Bassett stars as Camae, the mysterious maid who worked at the Lorraine Motel where King was assassinated.

This play is a must-see!!!
Absolutely phenomenal performances, and an awesome depiction of Martin Luther King, Jr.
as a man, not an icon!

FENCES
A NYC Broadway Play

Denzel Washington returned to Broadway in a revival of August Wilson's Fences.  Washington played the role of Troy Maxson, a Pittsburgh sanitation worker who once dreamed of a baseball career, but was told he was too old when the major leagues finally admitted black players.  As he faced off against the racial barrier at work and in his own disappointments, Troy also grappled with his son, Cory, over the teenager's hope for a football scholarship and with his wife, Rose, who confronts Troy over a child he fathered with another woman.  The original 1987 Broadway production won the Pultizer Price and Best Play Tony Award and ran for 525 performances, August Wilson's biggest commercial success on Broadway.

MEMPHIS
A NYC Broadway Musical
Memphis is a musical about the birth of rock & roll in the turbulent 1950s. It features an original score that mixes gospel, rhythm & blues, and early rock ‘n roll stylings with a contemporary sensibility. Set in the south in the 1950s, Memphis is the fictionalized life story of Huey Calhoon, a young, white radio DJ whose love of good music transcends race lines and airwaves. Fueled by the music he hears in the black bars on Beale Street, Huey’s on-air antics and unstoppable enthusiasm for “race records” creates a new white audience for African-American music. Thanks in part to his passionate persistence, “race” music reaches the center of the radio dial, quickly exploding throughout mainstream America. But then he falls in love with a beautiful black singer he has set on the path to stardom, and his personal life transcends the race line, too, with grave consequences. Is the world ready for this music and their love?
